The League Scoring and Standings System

Scoring

U6 Girls and Coed Division
Standings are not kept for the U6 division.  Referees do not log the final scores.

U7 through U12 Girls and Coed Divisions
The following 9-point system used:
6 points for a win.
3 points for a tie.
1 point for each goal (up to a maximum of 3)
0 points for a loss

YSC has installed a 10 point differential rule.  If a team wins by more than 10 points, they will lose 1 standing point for every goal over 10 points.

Scoring Examples:

Win game 3 to 2 (Winning team gets 6 points for victory and 3 points for goals for a total of 9 points.  Losing team gets 0 points for loss and 2 points for goals  for a total of 2 points.)

Tie game 1 to 1 (Both teams get 3 points for the tie and 1 point for goals for a total of 4 points each)

Win game 13 to 1 (Winning team gets 6 points for victory and 3 points for goals, but since team won by 12 points they lose 2 standings points for a total of 9-2=7 points).

League Standings

Yukon Soccer Club schedules games with teams from surrounding area clubs. Some divisions will be made up of only Yukon teams, while others will have teams from different clubs.

Yukon Soccer Club maintains “Total Standings” which, by using the point system, determines placement within a division. The “Total Standings” are for the entire division, but are NOT used when determining trophy placement for Yukon home teams. Typically, these are the standings that are viewed from the YSC website.

Yukon Soccer Club rewards teams within its own club; therefore, “Yukon Standings” must also be determined. These standings will determine placement only within the Yukon home teams. Below are a set of guidelines used by Yukon Soccer Club to determine “Yukon Standings”.

  1. Only games against other Yukon club teams count.
  2. If all teams play each other twice (or three times), then ALL games count towards standings.
  3. If a team plays a team more than others, then only the SECOND game played against that team counts towards standings.
  4. Teams with the same amount of points (against Yukon teams) will tie for placement.
  5. If one team plays another Yukon team 3 times and other Yukon teams twice then only the second two games count.

Because of the amount of teams in a division and the amount of games played, there are many times when a schedule calls for teams to play some teams more than once.  Which team plays which multiple times is completely arbitrary.  When the club sets a schedule, it is not known which teams will have a winning record or which will have a losing record (teams vary per season). As a result, a less dominant team may have to play the most dominant team twice while other teams get to play teams their own caliber twice.  If all games are counted, the less dominant team most likely receives two losses, while the dominant team receives two victories.  This is why only the second game is counted or the last two times if applicable.

Well soccer Fans it is over!  Well we have a few make up games left but for the most part we have done it.  This has been the craziest of seasons with the weather.  But not as Crazy in other areas.  I appreciate that.  You should pat yourself on the back for cutting back on the crazy sandwiches.  Coaches, good job this year as well.  We will be busy this summer and you may be called on to help as we try and get Taylor Park playable for the fall.  Our first plan is to get the Cornwell fields moved over and at least one U10 field.  Then the others eventually will follow.  Like Field of Dreams right?   Build it and they will come.  I would like to welcome our new Board Members.

Danny Laffoon, Sec., Les Moss, Scheduler, Pam Taylor, Coach Coordinator,  Shannon Jacobs, Registrar, She is the Snack Shack hostess too.  I would also like to thank Ben Palmer and George Smith for their time.  George is staying on as a member at Large and Neil Taylor is still involved as our Go to guy back up Fields and Head of Game Day Security.  Instead of Mall Cop he is Field Cop.  I also want to thank Mike Lutts.  Pronounced like boots.  He had a nightmare with reschedules and did a great job of keeping up.

Now as I depart I will try and update this blog over the summer with little nuggest of info and useless info.  Don't forget the Awards ceremony at Boot Hill on June 2nd at 6:30 PM.  Hot Dogs.  Oh yeah!  I loves me some Dogs.

Score with IT!
